About Zile Kenep

Learn about Zile Kenep, a band from Albuquerque, New Mexico, that blends zouk and compas music to celebrate French Antillean and Haitian culture.

Our Unique Journey

Zile Kenep stands out for its unique fusion of zouk and compas, two closely related yet distinct Caribbean music genres. Our music represents and celebrates the cultural identity of the French Antillean and Haitian diaspora.

Our Sound

Our music blends elements of zouk (originating in Guadeloupe and Martinique, known for electronic sounds, synths, and fast tempos) with compas (originating in Haiti, characterized by a smooth, melodic, and relaxed swing rhythm and prominent use of electric guitars and brass).

Our Cultural Expression

Zile Kenep's music serves as a significant expression of French Antillean and Haitian culture, often featuring lyrics in French Antillean Creole. Our fundamental goal is for band members to express themselves creatively, bounce ideas off each other, and produce great Zouk/Compass fusion to electrify the public wherever we play. We strive to deliver high-energy and positive performances.

"Zile Kenep's fusion of zouk and compas is infectious and unique! Their music truly celebrates Caribbean culture."
